  • Tips
    1) Even when it’s sunny in Seattle, the Mt. Rainier area can be much different so be sure to check the park website and webcams for current conditions and also check the weather forecast for the Mt. Rainier area before departing.
    2) The weather in the mountains change frequently so dress in layers to be prepared.
    3) If your family is not used to spending long hours in the car, make it an overnight trip and spend a night near the park.
    4) There is a suspension bridge that crosses the Nisqually River in the inner side of the Longmire Historic District. It is a short walk from the Longmire Museum through the Longmire Historic District which makes it a good turnback point while exploring the area.
    5) The Trail of the Shadows is an easy kid-friendly 0.7 mile (1.1km) loop trail that begins across the street from the Longmire Museum. The children loved seeing the trees that beavers chewed on.
    6) Narada Falls is a short and easy 0.1 mile walk from the parking lot with a refreshing viewpoint of the falls. This is a nice stop on the way to or from Paradise.
    7) Kids preschool age and up may enjoy participating in the Junior Ranger program to earn a Junior Ranger badge. Ask for a junior ranger activity book at the Longmire Museum.
