- Trip Type: Overnight trip

Parking lot at the trailhead to Second Beach
- When to Go
May to Oct (be sure to check the weather and road conditions, especially in winter)
- Things to Do
Ferry ride, stroll along the forest trail that leads to the sandy beach, play in the sand, stroll along the shore, discover small sea creatures in tidepools, enjoy the sunset, etc.
- Tips
1) The ferry departs every hour but weekends can get crowded and you may have to wait more than an hour so it is best to go early.
2) If the kiddos need a short break, stop at Port Gamble (which is a good place to take a break slightly past Kingston) and visit the General Store & Cafe and stroll through the little town.
3) The Pacific Coast and Rain Forests is a bit too far away for a day trip so make it an overnight trip and spend a night in Port Angeles or Forks. Plan on several days if you want to explore the whole park.
4) A 0.7 mile forest trail leads to the sandy beach with sea stacks (offshore boulder-like islands). When the trail ends, you need to climb over some driftwood logs. The kids will enjoy this experience because it may seem like a fun obstacle but be sure to help the little ones so they won’t slip on the logs.
5) Take along a picnic blanket and some beach toys so the kids can play in the sand.
6) It can get pretty chilly even on sunny days with high temperatures if there is wind, so be sure to take along a jacket.
7) If you are planning to see the sunset, prepare headlamps or flash lights for the walk back through the forest.
